Down By the Bay
This area of the Kids Room exhibit at the Maryland Science Center was originally submarine themed. After most of the exhibit components had failed or were in the process of failing, it was decided to rehab the space. The budget was small, so certain elements of the original exhibit were retained and reused. The concept for the exhibit was to create a space for imaginative play themed around the Chesapeake Bay. The exhibit is split into two distinct areas the first is a tent where children have the opportunity to play with real science tools as Naturalists. The second is an area of the Chesapeake Bay wetlands for children to explore in. Bendy Light Bright I was asked to design a small exhibit that would replace a broken submarine simulation game ( See top right ). I was given two days and a budget of about two hundred dollars. The space was a darker area in the museum with a ceiling height of four feet and they were looking to only replace the computer aspect of the game. This exhibit was to be used by children ages zero to eight. With all this in mind I settled on the idea of of a light bright using ultraviolet light to illuminate the tubing. With a younger audience in mind I choose to go with a flexible tubing as opposed to an acrylic. This way the children could manipulate the tubing in multiple ways, giving the exhibit an added sensory feature. Weave a Bird's Nest
I was asked to design a small exhibit to replace an out of date Info Station computer. The exhibit was to be located in the nature themed section of the children's area of the Museum. After reviewing all of the existing exhibit components in the nature area I found that there were none addressing birds. I wanted the exhibit to be interactive so I choose to go with and exhibit about bird's nests. Location: Maryland Science Center, Kids Room Exhibit Designer: Hope M Myers Fabricator: Cole Pritchard |
